PRODUCTS THAT AREN'T ON YOUR MAIN LIST
If you're not selling your products, you might want to consider archiving them. This will help with your site's performance and increase the chance that customers will find what they are looking for.
If a product is out of production or has been discontinued by the manufacturer, it's best practice to archive it on Magneto so we can make sure that these search results aren't being shown in the SERPs when someone searches for one of these items.
By archiving a product, you can prevent it from showing up in search results. If the item is out of production, consider adding it to your archive page so that customers can still find the information they need.
If you are going to archive a product, please do so as quickly as possible. This will help prevent any confusion or frustration from customers who are searching for discontinued items and can't find them.
If you have many products that are out of stock, consider listing them as temporarily unavailable in your product catalog. This will also help reduce the number of search results your site returns when someone is searching for one of these items.
If you want to archive a product, follow these steps:
- Go to the Products page.
- Click on the product you want to archive.
- Click on the ‘Archive’ button in the top right corner of the screen.
PRODUCTS YOU ARE NOT SELLING
If you have a product or two that isn't selling as well as it used to, you're not alone. The good news is that archiving these products is something you can do on Magneto with no impact on SEO. You'll create a new page for each archived product and remove the old product listing from your site. Then, when people search for the archived version of this product and find it on your site, they'll see only its updated information and will no longer be able to buy the original version of it. Here's how:
-Go into each individual listing for an archived product (you'll know which ones are archived because they won't be listed as active).
-Click Edit next to Content & Design→Images and click Remove all uploaded images from this page. This will cause all images and other content from this page to be removed from your website, leaving only basic HTML code behind without any formatting or styling info included.
Next, click Save. Then go into Magneto's Control Panel and click on Listings→Products. Find the product you want to archive and click the blue "Archive" button.
SOLD OUT PRODUCTS
If you don't have the product anymore, it's not good for your SEO. If you don't have the product anymore, it's not good for your customers. If you don't have the product anymore, it's not good for your brand.
If you want to archive a product from Magneto without affecting its ranking in search engines and without making users who are looking for that specific item frustrated with an error page, there are some things we can do to make sure this happens seamlessly.
The first thing to do is make sure that you have an existing product archive page. This will be the page where you show customers what they can no longer purchase from your store. If you don't have this, it's time to create one! This will be a great place for us to redirect old traffic so that users can still find what they're looking for even though the item has been discontinued.
Once you have an existing product archive page, it's time to create a new one and redirect traffic from the old one. This will keep your search engine rankings intact while still giving customers what they're looking for.
PRODUCTS YOU STOPPED MANUFACTORING
If you've been in business for a while, you might have a few products that you no longer sell. Maybe they were discontinued by the manufacturer, or maybe they're just not in demand anymore.
Either way, you probably don't want to delete them because they're still part of your history and might be useful to show what kind of company you've been throughout the years as well as how much variety your product line has been over time.
However, if there's no reason for these old products to be on your site anymore (and there usually isn't), then it's best that we archive them so that search engines don't think it's still available for sale.
Archiving is basically hiding from search engines so users won’t find them either. This can help with SEO because once this happens, other websites may start linking back to relevant pages with outdated information which helps increase their PageRank score even though those links aren't coming from themselves directly (getting tons more incoming traffic).
ARCHIVING OLD PRODUCTS IN MAGNETO
One of the best ways to keep your site running smoothly and improve your SEO is to archive old products. As a store owner, it's important that you spend as much time focusing on what's selling well as possible and keeping new products up-to-date. Archiving old products allows you to do this while also reducing clutter on your site.
If you're not familiar with archiving, it essentially means removing any information about the product from public view and making it accessible only by clicking through a "more info" link or button on each individual product page. The best way for me to explain how this works is by example: Let's say we have a t-shirt that used to sell well at one point in our store but now has very little traffic or sales data associated with it (and hasn't for several months). This is what happens when we remove all information from the web page:
The t-shirt is still accessible through our store's backend, but it won't show up in any of the searches that we do on Google or other search engines (nor will people be able to find it by browsing through your site). If you're looking for an easy way to improve your SEO and cut back on clutter, then archive old products are a great option.
As a store owner, you're probably thinking: "How can I make sure that people don't miss out on my products?" One way to do this is by using our revenue tracking feature. With this tool, we'll be able to see how many sales are being made from each product page and which ones are driving the most traffic (and therefore revenue).
It’s easy to see how archiving old products can help your site run more smoothly and improve your SEO. So, if you’re looking for a way to keep your site running smoothly, don’t hesitate to try it out!
